Pupils from Years 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 delighted the audience in the 5th Bishop Luffa Languages Festival, which took place on Tues 15 July. Pupils prepared a variety of acts in French, German and Spanish, including songs, dances, musical presentations and sketches which they then performed with confidence and style on the evening. The festival took the form of a competition, judged by Mrs E. Walling, and Ms. A. Wells from Warden Park School and Mr. K. Pask from Milton Mount Primary School. Winners of the primary schools’ category were Summer Bailey, Ella Jones and Alice Laflin from Parklands Primary School, with a superb sketch in a witches’ hotel. Second prize went to Dominic Baker, Megan Chambers, Sophie Ratcliffe and Katie Trethewey from Walberton and Binsted Primary School with a disastrous cooking demonstration on Blue Peter. The Bishop Luffa category was won by Ruth Allan, Nina Haylock and Hannah Pocock who performed a fluent, confident dialogue about a confused Spanish tourist, using both Spanish and German. Second place was won by Samuel Berry for his entertaining demonstration of how not to make a pancake.
The show was ably compered by students from Year 10 – Sam Wakeford, Emily Leo, Imogen Mullet and Keri Cousins. It was excellent to see a real progression in students’ linguistic skills from beginners to those who have now completed two years of learning a foreign language. Congratulations to all those who took part in such an exciting evening.
