After further rehearsals today, a superb evening of drama is expected tomorrow at 7.30 pm in the Bartlett Hall. The plays featured are (in order of performance tomorrow) “The Factory”, presented by Sherborne, “The Seven Deadly Sins” (Bell), “Edward Scissorhands” (Otter) and “Street of Crocodiles” (King).
“The Factory”, directed by Charlotte Hunt, Laura Thrower and Ian Hughes, is based on Roald Dahl’s popular Willi Wonka story, in which winning a ticket to visit the chocolate factory turns out to be a learning experience for the youngsters involved.
“The Seven Deadly Sins”, directed by Alice Crespi and Heidi Pointet, uses a stylised approach to present a powerful story about temptation and sin, while “Edward Scissorhands”, adapted and directed by Rosie Baldwin, Alfie Jones, Chelsie Bennett and Claire Knapman, portrays in a dramatic and moving way how Edward (played by Joel Banks, top right), having been left unfinished and isolated by his creator, deals with the real world around him – with some horrifying consequences.
The evening will end with “Street of Crocodiles”, inspired by Polish writer Bruno Schluz. This is a play based on dreams and obsession, with dramatic use of mime, dialogue and sound.
The guest judge, Anna Ledwick, Chichester Festival Theatre Trainee Director, will choose which of these four productions will be awarded the Shippam Drama Trophy on this special occasion, the 25th House Drama Festival held at Bishop Luffa School.
Tickets to see tomorrow’s final cost £4.00 each and can be bought at the door.
