A play providing the ‘Bare Necessities’ of a fantastic night.
Once again, our students have produced a phenomenal drama production of the traditional ‘Jungle Book’ story by Rudyard Kipling; with outstanding performances from the whole cast. “I co-directed the school play and apart from it being a fantastic experience and making new friends, our hard work was rewarded by an amazing response from the audience” said Chelsie Bennett of Year 13. “I gained new skills and felt that I had done something good for the school.”
The play ran for three evenings, each being as energetic and enthusiastic as one another; with miraculous performances from Joel Banks as the main role, Mowgli. Jonny Boutwood, who recently played ‘Ratty’ in ‘Toad of Toad Hall’ at Pallant House Art Gallery as part Chichester Youth Theatre, also played the comical, yet lovable Baloo Bear.
The stage was designed to be in the round so that the audience would feel part of the jungle. The scaffolding around the edge of the stage was covered in foliage to create a jungle effect. “I was delighted with the production” said Mrs Furnell, Head of Drama. “The children have worked incredibly hard and it’s been a wonderful experience for all.”
Overall the play was a huge success and we look forward to next year.
