Luke Emmett (11 Story) represented England Under16s in the 4 Nations Hockey tournament, held over the Easter holiday in Seville, and featuring Europe’s top four sides. England started their first game nervously, but still managed to draw 4-4 with Germany in an exciting first game. The next match was against the well-supported Spanish side, and, as in the opening game, Luke played an important role in England’s free scoring attack. They moved to a 4-1 lead and although Spain managed to bring it back to 4-3, setting up a very tense last five minutes, England claimed the three points. As the final round of matches started with all four teams still able win the tournament, England made sure of their place in the final with a reasonably comfortable 3-1 win over Holland, including a scorching goal from Luke, to finish top of the league. The final was against Spain, but this time England could not beat their hosts, narrowly missing out 3-2 in another tense game, and so ended in Silver Medal position. The England camp were extremely pleased with this result, as they hadn’t finished this well in the competition for many years, and with Luke making a good contribution in each of the four games, he was very much part of the success.
