Bishop Luffa entered 2 teams in the English Schools National Track and Field Cup competition for the first time. Based on a team of athletes competing in 2 events each the competition is scored against National Athletics standard tables.
First up were the Year 7 and 8 Girls who competed in the Sussex Western Division. The competition was fierce with many of the Counties top independent sector schools present. Our young team of athletes which included a number who were competing for the first time worked really well on the track and found themselves in 6th place overall at the half way stage. In the field events the girls’ class showed as the team were able to drag themselves up into 3rd place with a score good enough to currently rank them in 16th place nationally. The girls now look forward to competing in the South East England round in June.
Next up were the Year 9 and 10 Boys. Starting in the field the team was able to put together a strong set of performances which saw them placed third at the halfway point. After a quick ‘pep’ talk the boys entered the track events with target times in their minds. A superb set of performances saw 13 of the 14 competitors break their target times and score enough points to race through into first place and take the Sussex Western Area County Title.
