As a part of your child’s education at Bishop Luffa we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme. PSHE education is the curriculum subject that gives young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and reach their full potential.

PSHE education is taught throughout the school in every year group and is monitored and reviewed regularly by the staff and Directors. All PSHE teaching takes place in a safe learning environment and is underpinned by our school ethos and values. Details of our PSHE curriculum can be found below.

Many of you will be aware that the Department for Education (DfE) has made changes recently to the requirements placed on schools regarding ‘Relationships and sex education (RSE) and health education’. At Bishop Luffa we are in the process of updating our Relationship and Sex Education Policy in line with the new government requirements.

To reflect the distinctive Christian vision of our school we have adopted the principles shared in the Church of England Charter for RSE. We are also drawing on best practice and guidance from the DFE, PSHE Association and the Diocese of Chichester Education Department.

At this stage we would invite you to let us know any questions the attached charter raises for you about the nature of your child’s relationship and sex education. We will be in contact again as the policy develops, to invite any further comments and questions you may have.
However, if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions that you would like to raise concerning PSHE or more specifically RSE and the attached charter, please feel free to contact Mrs Smerdon-Corp:

The following topics will be covered during PSHE lessons during the forthcoming months (but may be subject to change).  If you have any concerns about the topics being discussed please contact your child's Head of House or Mrs Smerdon-Corp in charge of PSHE (
