Joseph Stevens (11Burrows) has just received his exam results back from LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) having taken his Level 3 Certificate: Grade 8 in Musical Theatre - this is the highest exam you can take with LAMDA prior to foundation degrees. The syllabus has recently been altered and made a lot harder. A distinction is 80% or more; equivalent, when taken at grade 8 to an A* in A Level. Joseph achieved an amazing 100% at this level and grade.
Joseph said, “In my teacher's 17 years of teaching these exams, she has never had a student gain this result and does not know of anyone else who has achieved this percentage either at this level and grade. It was surreal in the exam as after a performance of Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar the examiner was in tears for a long time and had to take a break to compose himself - it is a moment that I will never forget. The examiner is very highly regarded in the industry and had worked with people who helped to create Les Misérables and other international musicals.”
Joseph received his certificate which included the following comments from the examiner, “Joseph, you are able to meld your talents and skills, so that the lyrics are truly brought to life in a compelling and memorable exploration of each moment. The characterizations you share possess a truthful ‘core’ and will remain in my mind’s eye for a very long time to come.”
We are immensely proud of Joseph’s achievements and wish him every success for the future.
