On Saturday 19 May Bishop Luffa’s Magistrates’ Mock Trial team, having won the local Mock Trial heat in March, competed in the Regional Final at Worthing Magistrates’ Court.
The case in question concerned a student charged with handling stolen goods. Teams provided advocates, witnesses, court staff and Magistrates and were judged by Magistrates and lawyers on their performances. We won! This means we head to the National Finals in Birmingham to compete against the winners of the other regions. The Bishop Luffa team consists of thirteen pupils who have met once or twice a week for the last six months to prepare for the competition.
It's been an incredible opportunity to learn about the law and the consequences of breaking it, as well as building confidence and doing something entirely different to normal lessons.
To be through to the National Finals is a huge achievement for the whole team, and we are extremely proud of ourselves and to be representing Bishop Luffa, the first time a Luffa team has got this far in the Magistrates’ competition.
