At the end of February Bishop Luffa School was once again invited to perform in Dance House at The Alexandra Theatre in Bognor Regis alongside other local secondary schools. This year our Year 12 A Level Dance students plus the KS4 Dance Enrichment group consisting of Year 10 students performed to a packed audience. Grace Kemp (12Otter), Hannah Hutton (12Otter) and Lydia White (12Otter) entertained the audience with a Bob Fosse inspired jazz dance to Dolly Parton’s well known chart hit ‘9 to 5’. In contrast, the Year 10 dancers performed a contemporary dance piece inspired by the theme of empowerment. The choreography explored a range of ideas such as power, unity, control, equality, freedom and strength. Both dances highlighted the dedication and hard work all of the dancers who rehearsed tirelessly prior to the performance. I am proud to reveal that both groups have been invited to perform as part of a Dance House 'Highlights Evening'. Each year they invite just a few of the schools who have performed during the Dance House season to return to perform again. When inviting schools to the 'Highlights Evening' they look for originality, creativity and sheer watch ability of a performance. The organisers felt that Bishop Luffa had an abundance of all of those qualities.
