Cadet Flight Sergeant Elyot Harmston (12Ridgeway) has just completed an eight-month course to become a Qualified Aerospace Instructor. Training was conducted at weekends from September 2018 to April 2019 at MOD Boscombe Down, RAF Cranwell and finished with a graduation week at RAF Linton-on-Ouse. 40 cadets were selected from 400 applicants from squadrons across the UK. Elyot was the only cadet to be selected for this year’s course from Sussex Wing.
Elyot said, “It was the most challenging thing I have ever done but also by far the most rewarding. Courses like this are what makes the Air Cadets, I met like-minded people who I’m sure will be life-long friends.”
QAIC graduates were taught how to use wind tunnels to prove aerodynamic theories, air traffic control simulators, and flight simulators. There were air power lectures, aviation studies training; similar to ground school for a pilot’s licence, aerospace activity planning- so that graduates can organise and run and aerospace training weekends for other cadets.
Elyot is part of 461 Chichester squadron which will be taking part in the Chichester Festival with a parade on Sat 13th July. http://www.461aircadets.co.uk/
