Last weekend saw Leo Stallard (11Burrows) and Luke Campbell (12Story) represent Great Britain in the European Duathlon Age Group Championships in Soria, Spain. The duathlon comprises a 5km run, a 20km cycle and a final 2.5km run. Having qualified for the event on a cold, wet October morning last year the pair were looking forward to the prospect of competing abroad.
The race saw a strong first run from Leo, putting him in 6th place going into the cycle. After an impressive bike leg on a challenging course, Luke entered transition level with Leo. After the final run, Leo had climbed two places to finish 12th with Luke maintaining his position well to finish close behind in 14th, with both athletes only a few minutes behind the medallists.
The pair hope to qualify for next year’s event as they are both young in their age group.
