In their Languages lessons, Year 7 students have been studying German this term. As we enter the festive season, they have been enjoying learning about how Christmas is celebrated in Germany.
All over Germany, adults and children alike will be enjoying the Christmas markets which take place from the beginning of December right up until 23rd December. At these wonderful markets there are always stalls selling decorated gingerbread treats or Lebkuchen as they are known locally.
Making and decorating gingerbread is a Christmas tradition in many German families. Our Year 7 students were given the challenge to research a traditional Lebkuchen recipe and bake their own gingerbread biscuits at home. They then brought their delicious home baked treats into school and had an hour of fun decorating them in true German style. Our 'in house' judges then had the challenge of identifying the winning entries!
You can see that the results were not only amazingly creative but also, as our judges Mr Vann and Mr White can verify, completely delicious! Well done Year 7 - we hope you enjoy eating (what is left of) them at home!
