Gwen Sargent (7Burrows) has just been selected to represent the RYA South Zone on the Optimist team at the Eric Twiname Championships at Rutland Sailing Club from the 5-7 May. This is a prestigious national event in which the best young sailors across the UK race for their zone area.
She will also be training and racing with her South zone team mates at Royal Victoria Yacht Club on the Isle of Wight before racing at the Inland Championships at Grafham Water Sailing Club near Petersborough. This is the first of three national ranking events from which the UK training teams are selected and Gwen is hoping to make the national girls training squad.
Gwen and her brother Johnny (who will be joining the school this Autumn) spent a busy Easter racing and training in the Netherlands. After a gruelling four day Easter regatta they trained for three days before competing in the OptiSprings Regatta. Gwen came 120th out of 215 young sailors across the world (Holland, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Russia, South Africa, USA, Ireland, Canada, Cayman Islands, Australia and GB). Our congratulations to Gwen on a magnificent achievement.
