On Friday 3rd February the main school library here at Bishop Luffa transformed into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Year 7 and 8 students were invited to attend an evening full of activities, games and challenges that all celebrate the wonderful world of Harry Potter and the incredible impact it has had on a generation of young readers.
Staff (who had also transformed for the occasion!) helped our young wizards and witches perfect their spell casting, explore charms and potions and made sure that everyone could successfully defeat a dementor (should one arise). Honeydukes café opened for ‘Gillyweed’; ‘Fizzing Whizbees’ and of course, ‘Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans’.
Outside the castle (library) we had exciting games of Quidditch, and there were also opportunities to retreat from the excitement in the Forbidden Forest. Throughout the night students won points for their houses, with extra points available for impromptu challenges and trick questions. A final, closely fought House Quiz saw ‘Hufflepuff’ victorious! Followed by Slytherin, Ravenclaw and finally Gryffindor. Our winners enjoyed a Chocolate Frog and the evening saw additional prizes for best costume – won by Luna Lovegood and Newt Scamander. As you can see we immersed ourselves completely, with most of our students so ‘in character’ that it was something of a shock when the evening ended. We had a magical time.
