Over recent weeks, King House students have been trying to raise as much money as possible to support the charity Sarcoma UK and honour the memory of our friend and inspiration Mel De Lacy, who sadly passed away over a year ago. Now, as a final push, we are excited to share that the event has now been opened up as a remote whole school lockdown challenge that we hope many students across the school will get participating in.
Given that Mel was such a popular and much-loved member of the local community, many of you will have had the privilege of knowing her in either a personal or professional capacity, or through her relentless fundraising when she selflessly used her precious time to raise both funds and awareness for Sarcoma UK.
For the triathlon, students have begun collecting sponsors for the number of miles they cycle or run. Previously this had also included swimming but for many this will not be possible under the current restrictions so don’t worry! You could even get active at home – running in your garden, using exercise bikes or using a treadmill. These activities should be part of student’s daily exercise.
Tier 4 rules state:
Exercise should be with your household (or support bubble) or one other person, this should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.
Students can download the sponsorship form (click on this link) and record how much they complete. We are not asking students to complete a certain number of miles, but simply to do their bit and get involved in raising money, whilst getting active at the same time!
Students will be completing their activities outside of school. The school cannot take responsibility for any pursuits completed by students outside of school time. We are therefore writing to confirm that you are aware your child may choose to take part and that you are happy to take responsibility for the running, cycling and swimming that they may get involved in outside of school as part of the King Team Tri event. If you do not agree to the stated terms, please email McAuleyR@bishopluffa.org.uk to make us aware of this. If we do not hear from you it will be assumed that you are happy for your child to participate.
Our aim is for the event to run up until the February half term, giving students the next few weeks to really do their bit in getting active. On the final day before half term, we will hold a Celebration Day where our grand total will be revealed, and various prizes will be given to students who go the extra mile!
We hope you will help us to raise as much money as possible over the next few weeks and encourage your son/daughter to take part if they are not already. You can donate sponsorship via your ParentMail account. These can be made through Payments/Shop and will appear as ‘King House charity Donations’.
