Bishop Luffa entered three boats into the National Schools’ Sailing Championships 2018 at the end of June. The event is hosted by Itchenor Sailing Club and the aim is to promote inter-schools sailing competition and promote participation in the sport. Typically the RS Fevas are raced by Year 8 and 9 pupils with a maximum age limit of Year 10; two of Bishop Luffa’s boats were sailed by Year 7 pupils, some of which had never sailed in such a big fleet (108 boats) before – well done to all!
The final results out of 108:
Gwen Sargent (7Burrows) and Hazel Jones (7Burrows) – 27th
Toby Greatorex (8Burrows) and Alex Webb (8Burrows) – 42nd
Max Sydenham (7Andrewes) and Evan Williams (7Wilson) – 49th
Alex had great fun doing the Feva races at the Itchenor schools week, saying "I loved the great atmosphere and being able to spend a few days sailing in some amazing weather!” Gwen said “I enjoyed sailing a double handed boat with Hazel and it was really fun to try something new!”
“I loved sailing against so many boats as it was the biggest fleet I’ve raced in! I am looking forward to competing next year,” commented Evan and Hazel also had a great time, “I enjoyed sailing with Gwen as I’ve always sailed against her, never with her in the same boat!”
Congratulations to all our pupils for a successful event. Thank you to David Priscott for providing the photos (6795 Max Sydenham (7Andrewes) and Evan Williams (7Wilson)).
