Fifty schools from Sussex, Hampshire, Brighton & Hove and the Isle of Wight entered the Create & Competition 2017. Jasmine Westlake (9Otter) and Leila Karim (9Burrows) were one of four pairs to win a place at the regional final which was held at the Newlyns Cookery School on Tuesday 27 June.
The competition was very closely fought and although they did not win they were praised for the blend of flavours in their dish of Selsey Crab Ravioli with a Salsa Verde and tomato salad. One of the judges commented that ‘this dish had the best combination of flavours’.
Both girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working under pressure in a competitive environment and felt it was a great opportunity to develop their team working skills.
They received a range of prizes which included a recipe book, a selection of local produce and they got to keep their ‘Create & Cook’ aprons! Congratulations to Jasmine and Leila it was a wonderful achievement to have made it to the final and we are very proud of them.
