Bishop Luffa put together a team of 14 Fevas to enter the annual competition that is hosted at Itchenor Sailing Club. “Team Bishop Luffa” had the largest team of all schools with their 14 boats. The 28 sailors ranged from Year 7 to Year 10 students. Some of these are experienced racers who regularly compete at a national level, whilst for others this event was the first time they had raced in fleet of over 100 boats.
They certainly had their work cut out for them; Monday was challenging (and exciting) racing with two races held in a strong breeze with gusts of 28 knots. There was plenty of wind on Tuesday for the remaining four races with gusts of 20 knots.
The top Luffa boat was Alex Sydenham (10Andrewes) and Alex Coles (10Sherborne) with a final place of 9th (out of 106 boats). Well done to all the competitors, who I know had lots of fun.
Those who took part were Alice King (7Burrows), Noah Chisnall (7King), Ted Probee (7King), Isla-Rae Brookes (7King), Thomas Mealing (7Otter), Luke Pendry (7Ridgeway), George Phillips (8Andrewes), Ben Stewart (8Andrewes), Benjy Gardner (8Otter), Olaf Storton (8Ridgeway), Cass Dent (8Story), Zac Robst (8Wilson), Matthew Board (9Andrewes), Matilda Gran (9Burrows), Sophie Brookes (9King), Harry Hatfield (9King), Isabelle Tonks (9King), Charlie Mealing (9Otter), Ollie Mills (9Otter), Jack Gardner (9Otter), George Long (9Otter), Eva Jones (9Story), Joe Clark (9Wilson), Hugh Williams (9Wilson), Alex Sydenham (10Andrewes), Ethan Hill (10Otter), Ollie Meaby (10Ridgeway) and Alex Coles (10Sherborne).
