Two sixth form students, who are Cadets from 461 (Chichester) Squadron RAF Air Cadets, travelled to South America in August for an overseas expedition with a select group of Sussex Wing RAF Air Cadets.
Elyot Harmston (12Ridgeway) and Jonty Parkin (13Andrewes) flew to Lima in Peru and then on to Cusco, where they worked at the Azul Wasi Orphanage with a group of 22 other Cadets to help build a new accommodation block. Many of the Cadets raised their own funds to make the trip and one even arranged crowd funding for new clothing and musical instruments to be purchased for the 19 orphans who live at Azul Wasi. The cadets then walked 75km at heights of 4,500 mts over five days along the Salkantay trail to reach Machu Pichu.
Elyot has recently enrolled on a seven month QAIC course at RAF Bolton to become a Qualified Aerospace Instructor. Elyot is the first in his squadron ever to undertake this course and the only Cadet from Sussex Wing to be selected.
