Two of our Sixth Formers – Ellie Roberts (12Wilson) and Dylan Collier (12Story) – have been undertaking some fantastic work on behalf of young people in West Sussex.
Last week Ellie and Dylan went to the Palace of Westminster, where they gave a presentation to the British Youth Council as well as various MPs, regarding the work that they have undertaken as part of their roles as Chairperson of the West Sussex Youth Cabinet (Ellie) and Communications Officer for the West Sussex Youth Cabinet (Dylan).
Their presentation focussed around the fact that they had driven the campaign to award Votes at 16 to our young people and that as part of their campaign, they had debated the motion with the West Sussex MPs. Their arguments were so strong that as a result, the motion was passed. Councillor Louise Goldsmith has now written to Parliament to inform the government that West Sussex now support Votes at 16.
This achievement was met with huge applause from the British Youth Council and when the MPs within the room addressed the delegates, they warmly congratulated Ellie and Dylan and asked if they would be willing to be involved in helping to pass the motion in other areas of England.
What a fantastic achievement.
