Once again Bishop Luffa students have had great success at the RYA South and South West Regional Championships at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy at the end of September. This was the biggest sailing event in which the sailors could compete this year.
The RS Feva fleet raced on Saturday 26th September. This is a double handed dinghy with an asymmetric spinnaker. 42 boats raced in high winds and big waves. The event was won by Charlie Gran (9Burrows), crewed by friend Freddie Covell. Gwen Sargent (10Burrows) crewed by brother Johnny Sargent (9Burrows) came closely behind in 5th place.
On Sunday 27th September single handed RS Tera raced with Alex Sydenham (8Andrewes) coming third. 79 Optimists raced in strong breeze and difficult seas. The event was convincingly won by Johnny Sargent (9Burrows) with sister Gwen Sargent (10Burrows) closely behind in 7th.
Fantastic results for all involved.
