
Thomas Machell (9Burrows) and Charlie Gran (8Burrows) – took part in the International Topper Sailing World Championships during the summer. Travelling from afar as China, India, South Africa, Turkey as well as Europe, the proven championship venue was a perfect location for this truly international event. Renowned as the ‘friendly class’, the Topper has endured as the ideal pathway boat for youngsters and has never been so popular as it is today. Charlie came 20th in the 5.3 Gold Fleet and Thomas 33rd in the 5.3 Fleet. In August Thomas and Charlie also went to Largs in Scotland for six days to compete at the Topper Nationals 2019. Thomas was 5th boy in the Silver Fleet and Charlie came 26th in the Gold Fleet.
Amy Morris (8Ridgeway) won a silver medal with her team in the U13 European Softball Championships in Italy in August, a fantastic achievement.
Gina Rizzo (9King) competed in a charity (The Smile of the Child) swim at the end of August by swimming across the Albanian – Corfu channel in Greece for a total distance of 3km. Gina was the youngest ever swimmer to swim across the two countries. What an amazing accomplishment.
