On the 25th of June, five Year 9 pupils and ten Year 8 pupils attended a youth RE conference - along with 10 other secondary schools from West Sussex - linked to SACRE, (Standing Advisory committee for RE), Chichester Diocese and Bishop Luffa School. The theme of this year’s conference, decided by the Year 9 Steering Group, was ‘What is the future of religion?’. To help the pupils develop their own ideas on this topic, they each attended three seminars from people of different beliefs and faiths. For example, there were lectures from a Humanist, a member of the Baha’i faith, and a Christian focus on Spirituality. At the end of the day, everyone who attended was gathered together and encouraged to share their own opinions on the question, and how they might have changed across the day. It was a really enjoyable and interesting day, and on behalf of all the Bishop Luffa students who attended, I would like to thank Dr Hawkes for supervising, Mr Parrott and Mrs Adams for driving, and Mrs Smith for her overall leadership and organisation of the event.
