In September, the Art Department were delighted with the acquisition of a new A3 Printing Press, which was made possible through the generous funding of the PFA at Bishop Luffa. Last year, Chichester Arts Society supported the department with funding for a Mask Making project and this year they were kind enough to provide funds for an exciting new print making project with Year 9 students.
In this new Printmaking project, students were able to explore and develop new printmaking skills, which they had previously, been unable to experience. They were given the opportunity to create Press Prints and to experiment with a range of printmaking and mixed media techniques.
The project also, enabled pupils to use their critical and evaluative skills, through researching and referencing relevant contextual studies; which included research on the Sculptor Eduardo Paolozzi, focusing on his assemblage sculptures, collages, lithography and screen prints. Indeed, a group of the Year 9 pupils were lucky enough to be taken to Pallant House Gallery, on an extra -curricular enrichment ;so that they were be able to see this artist’s work in the flesh.
Pupils began by constructing Assemblage heads from found objects and machine parts, which were then, photographed and used as primary source material for drawings/ collages and repeat pattern prints.
