Parents and Friends Association

The Bishop Luffa PFA helps support the school, providing those ‘extras’ that the school budget simply cannot cover.
Two of the largest expenses we have are:

  • Mini-buses £5,304
  • Counselling service £3,000

In addition, the PFA try and support individual departments every year with smaller projects. Items funded include Sphero’s, sewing machines, a laser cutter, lighting systems, fume cupboards (the list goes on). We also provide refreshments at numerous school events throughout the year.

We have also started a dedicated Prom Fund. In 2021, Proms had to relocate to a marquee on the field due to Covid restrictions – but the marquee was such a success we do not intend to try squeezing all the Year 11’s back into the Bartlett hall. But of course, a marquee comes at a cost and in order to ensure the event is accessible to all students we want to keep ticket prices down by keeping a top-up fund. We hope all your young people will be able to attend and enjoy prom in their Year 11.

BUT (and it is a big one) the PFA is struggling – both with supporters and funds. Without these, the ‘extras’ simply cannot be provided.

Several events we have tried to arrange since Covid have had to be cancelled due to lack of interest. We also struggle to get enough helpers to serve refreshments.

We only get a handful of parents at the monthly meetings. During Covid (on Zoom) we were getting over 30. With 1,595 students in the school we are sure there must be more people willing to help and wanting to become part of the school community? The meetings are an opportunity for anyone to have a say and put ideas forward (and you do not have to attend every meeting). No idea is a bad idea and we would really like the opportunity to discuss your ideas to make them a reality.

We need YOUR help to ensure the continuation of the PFA and to keep providing the ‘extras’.

  • Do you have any fundraising ideas?
  • Would you like to join the monthly meetings to discuss ideas and make things happen?
  • Can you attend some of the fundraising events?
  • If you have limited spare time but would be happy to contribute financially, then any one off payment (of any amount) or regular Gift Aid payments (which can be from £1 per month) would be amazing.

Below is a list of the planned PFA meetings for 2023/24, held at school. We hope to see you there. The Gift Aid form is available at the bottom of this page, and we have also included a link to the dedicated Prom fundraising page, and an email address for you to send the PFA any ideas or ask any queries you may have. Please do get involved if you can.
