Bishop Andrewes was the Bishop of Chichester from 1605-9 and was the key translator of the King James Version of the Bible in 1611. He was one of the most famous and important Bishops of Chichester and his most famous sermon is quoted by English poet TS Eliot in The Journey of the Magi.
What is Andrewes House like?
We like to think of Andrewes as being a large family. Pupils feel there is a strong sense of unity within the House and that this has led to a great team spirit which has brought the House together and enabled us to achieve a lot of success both in inter-house competitions and in things like charity fund-raising activities.
A REVIEW OF Andrewes House 2025-2026
Well, where do I start after such a busy year?
Our Year 7 managed a fantastic few days away on the Isle of Wight, having lots of fun and as always, we gave Burrows House a lesson in how to win at Laser tag!
During the year, Andrewes have raised nearly £400 for the Epilepsy Society and Sussex Snowdrop Trust. Thank you to all who have contributed cakes, time and money to these worthwhile causes.
We have also taken part in lots of inter-house competitions and although we didn’t win the interhouse cup, we came first in a number of events.
We put on a fantastic House Drama production of ‘Medea’, which Hayley Martin (12Wilson) directed for us. We had lots of Andrewes students involved in that and although we didn’t make the final, they did themselves, and us, proud.
During the year Ivy Revill (9Andrewes) wrote and directed a play - And Then There Were None! - that was presented in the Bartlett Hall. Many students from across the different Houses were involved; it was really inclusive and reflected what our school is all about.
Many of 9 Andrewes were involved in doing assemblies at other schools with the international group. It was very brave of them, but they were terrific and made the school proud.
Bishop Luffa Runners lead the County to a 2nd place at the English Schools National Cross-Country Final! Joe Stewart (10Andrewes) and Ben Stewart (11Andrewes) were key figures in making this happen and so a big shout out to them.
We have also had a number of writing competitions this year and Joshua Horsnell (7Andrewes) and Isla Luckman (9Andrewes) both won prizes for their efforts.
There are many other achievements from individual students in sailing, LAMDA, music, cricket and other things like the Cyber First Girls Camp, Fruition, House Buddies, Inter-house Art, Corporate Challenge, Schools Sailing Camp, photography competitions and Digital Leaders. We also have many girls in the La Diva Choir who have put on some amazing events this year - not least the Christmas event in the Guildhall but, I am sure I speak on behalf of the Andrewes staff and students when I say we have ended the term exhausted.
All students in Andrewes House, this year, have shown kindness and consideration to others and have made me and the tutor team extremely proud. I am sorry if I have missed anyone out.
A Big thank you to our amazing tutors, Mrs Lopez, Mr Bonney, Ms Wells, Mrs Topley, Mrs Failes, Miss Machado, Mrs Williams and Mr Barnett who have all gone above and beyond this year. We also welcome Mrs Duffell who I will be sharing the Head of House role with, and Mrs McLoughlin who will be tutoring with Year 8 next year.
As we enter the summer, I pray that we will all manage to enjoy a bit of warmish weather, relax a bit and get ready to smash September in the face! Have a good break.
