Lift Off

Introduction to Lift Off (Bishop Luffa enhanced curriculum)

Lift Off is a specialist Key Stage 3 provision designed to support young people who need a more personalised and nurturing environment to help them re-engage with education.

Working in partnership with Park Community School and supported by the John & Hilary Pritchard Trust, the schools have created Lift Off with the aim of meeting the needs of students who may be experiencing significant barriers to learning and struggle to engage in the main school. These barriers may include difficulties with emotional regulation, anxiety linked to school attendance, challenges in maintaining positive relationships, persistent disengagement from learning, or behaviours that have made it difficult for them to thrive within a mainstream setting. Through targeted support, Lift Off seeks to rebuild confidence, develop resilience and help students experience success in education once again.

At the heart of Lift Off is a commitment to helping every student feel valued, safe and understood. Through strong relationships, trauma-informed practice and a restorative approach, staff work closely with students and their families to address individual needs and promote emotional wellbeing, self-worth and a sense of belonging.

As Lift Off develops, so too will its curriculum offer. Initially, students will access a personalised programme centred around the core subjects of English, mathematics and science, alongside opportunities that promote social and emotional development (for example through sailing). Over time, we aim to build a rich and ambitious curriculum that combines academic learning with vocational, practical and outdoor experiences. Through thematic projects and real-world opportunities, we aspire to nurture curiosity, creativity, teamwork and independence, ensuring that every young person is equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed.

Placements at Lift Off are carefully planned and regularly reviewed. For many students, Lift Off serves as a bridge back into mainstream education, with personalised reintegration plans designed to support a successful return to school life. For others, it provides the stability and support needed to identify the most appropriate pathway for future success.

Our vision is simple: to give every child hope, value and self-worth so that they can engage with learning, grow in confidence, rediscover their curiosity and achieve their full potential.
