King House was created in 1993 and is named after Bishop Henry King, who was Bishop of Chichester from 1642 to 1646. When Chichester was captured by the Parliamentarians, Bishop King’s estates were confiscated and his library sold. He lived in Buckinghamshire until the restoration of the monarchy in 1660. When he returned to Chichester, he established a restoration fund to repair the cathedral and Bishop’s Palace. He died in 1669 and was buried in the Cathedral.
What is King House like?
King House motto is ‘Success through practice’. Pupils in King House pride themselves in always striving to be the best. King House Charities are St Jerome’s Orphanage in Kenya and Breast Cancer Care.
King House Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank you for having us together in King House.
We ask You to help us give the best of ourselves while we are here,
And that You use the unity of our house to further your purpose in the world.
Keep us ever mindful of the suffering we can bring an end to,
That we might all become citizens of a kinder, more just world,
And lead us to a greater knowledge of Your love.
Amen
A REVIEW OF King House 2025-2026
Year 7
7King has had a remarkable first year at Bishop Luffa School. It has been brilliant seeing them each morning. I know the lovely Mrs Green has also enjoyed seeing them each fortnight too.
New friendships were formed after much fun was had on the Isle of Wight residential. 7King took to the stage in the Shanklin Theatre, played outdoor laser tag, went to the zoo, and even had marshmallows around the campfire- singing included naturally! It was a joy to see these friendships blossom throughout the year. I have been particularly impressed about how much all of 7King look out for each other- everyone is always included. They should be incredibly proud!
7King have been involved in several school games fixtures, such as football, basketball, cricket, and rugby. In addition many of 7King performed brilliantly in House dance, and House drama, 'King's Got Talent', and the school production. Outside of school, the wonderful 7King have been just as busy, from running 'Race for Life', competing in sailing events, taking part in dance and gymnastics competitions, other sports tournaments, and much more.
It was really encouraging to see students act as role models for others too, with many helping in worship club, leading assemblies in other schools, applying to be a House Buddy,or helping out with other primary school events.
As I look at all of 7King, I see the tremendous talent they all have. I am certain they will continue to experience 'life in all its fullness' as they continue their Bishop Luffa journey, and I am already looking forward to seeing what they accomplish in Year 8. Well done 7 King!

Year 8
This year 8 King students have shown fantastic energy both in and out of school. They have thrived in what can be a tricky second year in Secondary school once the novelty of it all has worn off. On site, students have thrown themselves into football, netball, badminton, hockey, athletics, cross country and cricket, with many representing the school in interhouse competitions and matches. The arts have flourished too, with students taking part in the school play, House drama, the choir, winning a couple of the photography competitions, Greenpower racing team, Dungeons and Dragons club, sewing club, and a school writing competition.
Beyond the school gates, students have pursued an impressive range of hobbies and achievements: mountain biking, BMX, parkour, sailing (including national and regional events), guides, army cadets, karate, rugby, cycling, and ballet (including an RAD exam and preparations for the Chichester festivities and gala).
Many also continue to develop musical talents through guitar and piano lessons, alongside painting, sketching and photography. I have no idea where they get all their energy! Perhaps most heartening of all, when they completed their review of the year, several students highlighted the friendships they've built this year as their proudest achievement. What a wonderful reminder of what makes our school community special. I feel very lucky to welcome 8King to school each morning; they are a lovely group of considerate, fun and passionate children.

Year 9
Year 9 can be a difficult year, a bit of a limbo between KS3 and KS4, with some subjects already starting to look at GCSE content and difficult choices about the future to be made. 9King have approached these challenges with positivity and real character. There is a palpable energy as the students look forward to specialising in their studies.
This has been a year of self discovery for many, I have seen some of the quieter members of the form bloom, and seen everyone's individual characters shine through more than ever.
There have been so many achievements this year both inside and outside school, from an incredible third consecutive win at Interhouse Dance to international Mountain Biking competitions.
Many of the students have completed their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award this year, either with the school or with external agencies. This shows real dedication and commitment to do good in the world, and seek personal growth. It is a very impressive accomplishment.
I am very proud of the young people I greet the school day with, they reflect the message I often leave them with: "Be kind to yourselves and look after each other."
I am looking forward to being part of their journey through KS4, they have some very exciting futures ahead of them.

Year 10
10 King started the year by beginning new GCSE courses with energy and enthusiasm, and ended with completing a set of mocks in the extreme heat of the June heatwave! They rose to the challenge, remaining focused and upbeat despite the risk of literally melting!
Alex Hickey’s noteworthy magic show wowed us all at the Summer term King House Talent show, where he showcased his act alongside other members of the House who also shared their passions.
Henry Fraser continued to impress on the water coming 9th in junior inter regionals rowing in the single skull with Classmates Noah Chisnall and Ted Probee also taking to the sea competing in the Pro National sailing championships. In school, there was sporting success in the hotly contested Interhouse netball
Megan Siddle, Elijah Pena, Alex Hickey and Jack Castle all carried the torch high and bright for the Arts with standout performances in the School Production of The Little Shop of Horrors. With Alex and Elijah taking to the stage again later in the year as senior cast members for the superbly told King House Drama performance of Gravenhunger, where they led by example to support the younger students brilliantly both on and off the stage. Megan Siddle was also invited to perform as part of the A level dance exam indicating her huge talent in the field of dance. In the world of theatre tech Lucy Carmichael has also been excelling -contributing to performances at the Chichester Festival Theatre and the National Connections Project.
Florence Cullen has been very busy outside of school completing a gruelling Overland Scout Hike and volunteering to support the younger generation regularly at Beavers.
The students continue to strive for work- life balance with many continuing to take part in activities they love outside of school such as football, mountain biking, gymnastics, Paddleboarding and netball to name but a few.
Many students in the group were recognised by their subject teachers and awarded subject colours for their dedication and commitment to their Year 10. Florence Cullen, Amy King, Alexander Petrov and Alex Hickey have received the honour of House Colours for their outstanding contribution and leadership, showing that they are living life in all its fullness and that they are encouraging and supporting others to do the same.
10 King have had four people in total working alongside them this year as a tutor team and we couldn't be prouder of what they have accomplished, we anticipate great things as they head into Year 11 together.
Year 11
11 King went out in absolute style when the entire tutor group rocked up looking magnificent in their finery at the prom. I know that many of these students had been planning their outfits for a number of years and they did not disappoint! A fabulous evening was had by all as they put the intensity of exams aside and celebrated the end of an era together.
This is a group who made a big impact on school life each and every year, from the Arts to the athletics track, from fundraising to dressing up, from school production to La Diva, racing cars, excelling in the culinary world, the literary world and in groups outside of school from cadets to sailing -this group never failed to get involved and make a difference. They truly brought fun and laughter and a sense of community to our house, taking a full and active part in all interhouse competitions year after year with an enthusiasm that never waned - they have served us well, enjoying success along the way and they have looked after each other when tough times and exams inevitably came their way. They showed courage, resilience and commitment when it mattered and were gracious and compassionate towards one another. We wish them the very best with their future endeavours and trust they will always enjoy life and keep that amazing positivity in all they do.
