Sixth Form students went on an exciting gallery trip to London to see the work of two very different contemporary artists on 3rd October. Claudette Johnson’s work was on show at The Couthauld gallery. She is a founding member of The Black British Arts Movement and is considered one of the most significant figurative artists of her generation. Students produced sketches and were able to discuss and enjoy work from the permanent collection.
Sarah Lucas’s major exhibition ‘Happy Gas’ was our second gallery where work using ordinary objects in unexpected ways challenges ideas of sex, class and gender. The work was comedic, large scale and provoked a range of reactions to inform students work.
