An Exciting Start to the School Year

We have had a busy start to the school year at Bishop Luffa School. It is wonderful to have all our students back in school and embracing life in all its fullness. This is the biggest that Bishop Luffa School has ever been with 1566 students. We have our biggest Sixth Form ever, with 197 students in Year 12 – and 45 of them come to us from other schools. We are also honoured to have more students from Ukraine joining us across all year groups.

We have welcomed a lively and confident Year 7 group that are clearly ready for secondary school. They started their first day with us with the tradition of a welcome breakfast in the Bartlett Hall – one of the highlights being their enthusiastic singing! They have already embraced their House identity and the healthy competition that goes with it.

The Year 7s spent the day getting to know their tutor group before Positively YOU gave a great session, showing the students creative approaches to learning, before their first House competition, ‘Spaghetti Towers’. The winners were Harry, Max, Bea, Alice and James from Burrows House. Mrs Bagdoniene was naturally delighted!

Mr Topley, Assistant Headteacher, talked to the students about the ‘KEY’ to living life in all its fullness at Bishop Luffa:

K – be kind to others, and yourself.
E – be extraordinary – be the best version of yourself that you can be.
Y – be you – everyone else is taken! It is important to be true to yourself.

Despite the rain, the school community gathered on Wednesday 7th September for a whole school assembly. This assembly is a tradition of our school and it was amazing to have everyone together – the whole Bishop Luffa family in one place. The assembly was led by Mr Hindman and our school captains, Amy Joyce and Alex Webb, with the opening prayer being read by Ms Sutton, our longest serving member of staff.
