Celebrating the King's Coronation

Coronation 3Golden crowns, sleeping guardsmen and union jacks! It could only mean one thing on this special Friday morning, Bake Off was back and the competition was on to win the golden Bake Off rolling pin trophy! In our Coronation special students tackled the show stopper challenge to create a cake for the King.

Evie Castle (9King) reined and scooped the top prize for her incredible attention to detail. Evie incorporated the English rose, Irish shamrock, Scottish thistle and Welsh daffodil into her crown design. Adding to this the layered madeira cake was buttery, soft and melt in your mouth delicious. Well done Evie!

In second place Katrine Dickeson (8Otter) and Harriet Cox (8Otter) created a Viennese chocolate orange cake, which had a perfect balance between the chocolate and the orange. Their imaginative design was inspired by how the crown will be lift onto the King's head, the represented this by having smaller iced crowns on a cushion rising up to a large crown on the top of the cake.

Coronation 2In third place Thea Miller (8King), Olive Kus (8King), and Elodie Roberts (8King), created a highly decorative cake with a funny twist which included multiple guardsmen doing different jobs at the coronation. Inside was a scrumptious vanilla cake.

Emily Pywell (10Andrewes) and Katie Barnett (10Andrewes) were highly commended for their union jack design and the tasty vanilla icing.

Jake Firbank (7Andrewes) was highly commended for his tasty Victoria sponge and pipped a red, white and blue crown design, the icing was soft and smooth and yummy to eat.

Many thanks to all the students who took part and to Mr Barnett our head judge who had the incredibly hard job of eating so much delicious cake.

Also congratulations to all our students for their wonderful entries in the bunting competition. There were lots of lovely designs submitted and we enjoyed looking at them all. The winning entries were designed by Bella Wright (8Burrows), Iona Sherwood (8King) and Lavinia Day (7Otter).
