We were thrilled that one of our former A Level students, Rose Prince, had one of her pieces of work selected to be a part of the 2021 Royal Academy of Arts Young Artists’ Summer Show, which brings together work by primary and secondary-level students from across the UK and beyond. Artworks are judged by a panel of passionate artists and arts professionals, with selected artworks displayed online and on-site at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Last year Rose’s beautiful textile sculpture was one of the works to be selected out of 33,000 entries. She went on to achieve an A* at Art A Level and has gone on to study art.
Rose’s 3D piece was inspired by the distortion of colour through natural elements. From completing primary research Rose explored the bright colours within nature through the dyeing of mushrooms, and used different techniques including weaving, free machine embroidery, Suffolk puffs, beadwork embellishments and knitting.
