Year 8 meet some Fantastically Great Women!

On the 13th January a group of Year 8 students were fortunate enough to attend a performance of ‘Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World’, based on the book by Kate Pankhurst, at Chichester Festival Theatre. The performance was noisy, colourful, creative, and inspiring – leading to lots of discussions on the way home about who most stood out, and who they knew about, and who was new to them! The visit was a combined trip between Drama and History, and complemented work done in History at the start of the year about significant figures in women’s history. Students who attended will contribute to a piece of display work that celebrates the diverse achievements of the diverse range of individuals on stage, some from the UK, and some from further afield.

Apart from the mask wearing, and other Covid precautions, it very much felt like business as normal in terms of trips, and it was great to get some learning done outside of the classroom – something that has been in such short supply over the last two years. As you will be aware, Mrs Goding sadly passed away recently, and as one colleague said, she would have loved the performance! The students were a credit to the School, and my thanks must go to Ms Lawlor, Ms Hurry, Mrs Syms-Evans, and Miss Dibley, for accompanying the trip, and to Mrs Grove for her sterling work in organising the logistics.
