It has been a busy start to the year in the Dance department and our BTEC and A’level students have been participating in exciting workshops with external practitioners, and working hard on upcoming performances.
A Level Dance Workshop
Our Year 13 dance students took part in a dance intensive with dance artist Madison Burgess (Lila Dance Company). They spent two days working creatively choreographing a quartet piece and will be examined performing this as part of their A’level practical work. The demanding choreography really developed the the students and they thrived from having the opportunity to experience working with a professional practitioner. The piece will be performed in the upcoming Evening of Dance Show on 30th March.
Chichester Dance Company We Are Workshop
Our Year 10 and 11 BTEC Dance students have been working with Emily Duffell from We Are Chichester Dance Company. The company aim to provide a creative community to provide not only skills development, but facilitate the mental, social, physical and creative needs of the individual. Year 10 and 11 enjoyed exploring and learning contemporary repertoire and really engaged with the skills development opportunity.
Dance House
Each year we are invited to take part in Dance House and showcase the talent of our BTEC Dance students alongside other local secondary schools. This year we are performing a Jazz piece to One Night Only on 8th March at the Alexandra Theatre, Bognor Regis and tickets are available from the box office 01243 861010 on their website www.alexandratheatre.co.uk Please do come along and support this fantastic event.
Dance Performances
Next term we have two evening performances to showcase the wonderful dancing talents of our students at Bishop Luffa.
The first evening is the Interhouse Dance Final which will take place on Tuesday 29th March in the Bartlett Hall. Students are busy rehearsing their performances for the heats which take place in early to mid-March. On the night of the final three groups from each year will compete against each other and gain points for their house.
The second date for your diaries is the Evening of Dance on Wednesday 30th March, also in the Bartlett Hall. On this evening audiences will be able to enjoy a wide range of dance performances performed by BTEC and A Level students in addition to displays from our extra-curricular clubs including RnB Dance.
Tickets for both events will be available on Parentmail after half term.
