On Friday 25th March, the Library hosted our 4th Harry Potter Book Night for Year 7, 8 and 9 students. Mrs Shuttleworth waved her magic wand and transformed the Library into Hogwarts for the night, so students could take part in Hogwarts lessons like Potions, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Charms and Care of Magical Creatures, as well as play Quidditch, break into the Gringott’s vault, shop at Honeydukes wizarding sweet shop and answering fiendish riddles from the Sphinx.
Having been sorted on arrival, the students earned points for their Hogwarts house before sitting their O.W.L.s in a fiendish quiz at the end. Slytherin were crowned the winning house (and Harry, Hermione, Ron and Neville weren’t there this time to snatch it away from them!), and Georgie Douglas (8Otter) and Sophia McWilliam (8Burrows) both won a prize for their fabulous costumes.
The Harry Potter books carry a great message of love and acceptance for all, and especially after two years of disruption it was brilliant to be able to celebrate that with our students. We know some Year 7s missed out on a place this year so plans are already afoot for another event in 2023 – watch this space!
